NO DAYS OFF;EVERYDAY IS FIT DAY

Hi Fitnation; it’s another great weekend and I hope you all are crushing your fitness goals for the week!
Over the years, I notice a lot of people indulge in physical exercises only on Saturdays, they are either too occupied or stressed to stay fit during the week; they let their guards down; eat junk food and drink volumes of alcohol only to jump out of bed on Saturdays and train for hours, hoping to burn the accumulated fat in one day. Interestingly, it is this same people that will ask you “how long will it take for me to lose XX kg? LOL

Fitness is a way of life, It  should be what you do every day, according to Edward R. Laskowski  of mayoclinic.org every adult must aim for 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity weekly or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity.  If you are going for moderate aerobic activities which are recommended for beginners, this translates to 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week.
Some people say “I work Monday to Friday, I leave home very early and come back very late I can’t workout during the week”. Ok, that’s fine, I understand but how about waking up 30 minutes earlier to do your aerobics before preparing for work?

If most of us comprehend the importance of regular exercise to our general health and functionality as humans, we wouldn't skip workout routines for anything.

So, here I outlined some of the health benefits of regular physical exercise:

·       *  Regular exercise slows the rate of aging- Everybody wants to be forever young right? Exercise is the natural way to stay and feel young.

·         *It helps blood circulation -Exercise removes blockages from the blood vessels, therefore making blood circulate freely around the body.

·         *It reduces the risk of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases.

·         *Increases your energy level – Imagine having extra bursts of energy to do more home chores or office work, to some of us this translates to more pay. Regular exercise is a wise investment.

·       *  It is a natural mood enhancer- Have you ever wondered why you find the happiest people in the gym. Well, exercise triggers the release of the endorphin hormone which gives a feeling of natural high and happiness.

·         *Helps you enjoy a better sex life – Yes! Exercise increases your libido and sexual stamina.

·         *A cure for insomnia- You don’t have to worry about insomnia again, regular exercise will make you fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow. However, do not work out an hour before bed time else you will be too energetic to fall asleep.

·        Helps the brain function better- This is the best part, a lot of research works have shown connectivity between regular exercise and brain function. Since exercise increases the flow of blood to every part of the body including the brain, it helps the brain’s cognitive and retentive abilities.
Employees who exercise are known to be more agile, smart and effective at work than their colleagues who do not exercise.

There are numerous benefits of regular physical exercise but this post is already too long, I beg to stop here. I encourage you to do a research on “the benefits of regular exercise” you will be shocked to know how much you are missing for not inculcating fitness into your everyday life.

Remember, it is not what you do once in a while that matters but what you do regularly.

Cheers to the fit life.

LOSE BODY FAT WITHOUT VISITING THE GYM

Goodmorning Fitnation,I hope you all are staying fit and healthy this weekend.

I have just returned from a 6.4km run and I feel charged and ready to hit the gym, but before I go, allow me to share some tips with my brothers and sisters who want to stay fit but do not like working out in the gym.

Below are 5 tips that will help you lose unwanted body fat without having to visit the gym for one day.

# 1: WATCH WHAT YOU EAT: We always hear the cliché ‘You are what you eat’; if you are someone that is addicted to junk food, you should expect to be out of shape. The rule of thumb here is: Have a meal plan and stick to it.
Your meal plan should fit your goal, if you are looking to lose weight, your diet must have reduced carbohydrate and fat, eat more protein and fiber; fruits and vegetables. Avoid fast foods and junk meals, sugar, carbonated sugar; they will sabotage your fitness goal.
Most importantly, do not eat after 8pm; late night food is the easiest way to add unwanted fat.

#2: DRINK PLENTY OF WATER: Drinking lots of water helps wash out excess fat from the body; also water fills you so you do not have to over eat.  Drinking a glass of warm water immediately you get up in the morning, helps hydrate your organs and makes excretion easier. You should aim to drink at least eight glasses of water daily.

#3:  DO CARDIO EXERCISES: Cardio exercises are a good way to burn body fat. Interestingly, there are many cardio exercises that you can do at home without weights or equipments. Example of cardio exercises you can try at home are; skipping, dance aerobics, jump jacks, High knees, pushups, chin ups etc.  You should also indulge in outdoor activities like jogging, walking, jumping, swimming, climbing etc

#4: USE SIMPLE HOME FITNESS EQUIPMENTS: Simple home equipments like the treadmill machine, sit up bench, abs wheel, magic ball etc are effective in pursuing your fitness goals. Invest the money and time to use these equipments; they will help you exceed your fitness goals.

#5: BE CONSCIOUS OF YOUR CHOICES:  Fit is not a destination, it is a lifestyle; to achieve and maintain weight loss, you  need to let some of your old habits go, make daily choices  that are in line with your fitness goals, make conscious effort to ditch excuses and put in the needed work to get the body you want.

Finally it is all about discipline folks; discipline is vital in fitness as it is with every other pursuit. Be disciplined in following through with your meal plan, be disciplined in following through with your workout routine, be disciplined enough to know what and what not to eat.
The people who achieve success in any endeavor are the ones that are disciplined and dedicated.

This being said,I'm off to the gym to build triceps......

Till I post again, cheers to the fit life.

ACCESS BANK'S RUN LAGOS MARATHON

Hey Fitnation, The city of Lagos was on standstill yesterday morning for the access bank's #Runlagos marathon and I was proud to be one of the participants.
The 42KM run started at 7;00am from the National stadium Surulere and ended at Eko Atlantic city Victoria Island.

The marathon route

Though this is my first attempt at running very long distance races, I got to the 21KM mark(half marathon) before my feet decided not to move again.

Enjoy flicks from the run:

My earphone, my water and I

I can't say the exact number of people that participated, but we were well above 5,000

13KM mark

On third mainland bridge; I needed that bottle of coke badly.

My nephew, we did this together.

21KM mark; At this point I was totally exhausted so i boarded the next BRT bus that came my way.

Entrance to the reception venue (Eko Atlantic)

We are finally here! 42KM. My friend suffered muscle cramp during the race but still managed to get to the finish line. I respect the spirit in him.

Stand Up for the champions!

By the way, the race was won by a Kenyan athlete Abraham Kipton  at a record time of 2 hours 16 minutes (I was still on third mainland bridge then. LOL). These Kenyan guys are something else.

It was a great one for me, thanks to access bank and Lagos state for putting together an event like this. I look forward to participating again next year.

Cheers to the fit life.

THINK YOURSELF INTO GREAT SHAPE THIS NEW MONTH!

The first step to having a great body is knowing exactly what you want. You should have a clear image of your perfect body in your mind before you set out to work towards it.
Mind works all things, We are a reflection of the images we have in our minds.
If you are fat and overweight understand that your mind has made you so and with your mind you can get in great shape.
Life's greatest words are found in the book of Proverbs 23 vs 7: "For as he thinks in his heart(mind) so is he".
Start using your mind to achieve the results you want in your life today, start thinking as you want to be and not as you are;for as you think in your mind so you are.
Happy New month People, God Bless you exceedingly this month and beyond.
